This photoblog is something I’ve wanted to create for so long, but just haven’t had the time to do so at the same time as inspiration to make it great actually hit. Not only that, but up until about 2011 I didn’t have the grounding in my life to keep me in the zone to keep up with something like a photoblog.
I started out with a tumblr, thinking that would be the best place because of the re-blogging feature and because it wasn’t something I saw a lot of photographers using. I figured it’d be innovative and interesting and target a different audience that might benefit me greatly. Unfortunately, I don’t think that was the best decision I’ve ever made, but it wasn’t a bad one either. I still use it occasionally, but what I really wanted was something more interactive and simpler to browse for those who enjoy my work. So the process of making something awesome on the WordPress platform just had to happen.
It took finding a great theme first and foremost. This alone took me about six months because I am the pickiest person alive, I’m pretty sure. In the end though I decided to go with Photocrati because it had such functionality, it was reasonably priced, and it had the option of adding an e-commerce section giving me additional functionality to expand into a storefront – another thing I’ve had tumbling around in my mind since the beginning.
So now I have this photoblog, and I’m sure you’re wondering just what I intend to use it for if you’ve read this far.
A lot of photoblogs you see out there share not only the photographer’s work, but their helpful tips for photography, Photoshop, Lightroom, and whatever other programs they use. While I think this is fantastic, and I will definitely be doing some of the same, my photoblog is here to serve another purpose as well.
This photoblog is going to be my creative process. I want those who love my work and who are thinking about hiring me to have the ability to understand where I’m coming from. I want them to understand just how my crazy artist mind works so that they can really know if I’m going to be the photographer for them. Most importantly though, I want it so I can look back on were I was coming from when I created pieces, so that I can re-channel that muse if desired. I want it to serve as a place for those just starting in photography to look and say “Oh wow, I’m not crazy for having these thoughts!” and to know that it really is always a growth process.
In this photoblog you’re going to see:
- My musings
- My photography
- Helpful hints and tricks
- Perhaps some brushes and actions if I ever make them
- Links to inspirational items I find around this vast beautiful world
- Live streamed content to my actual work process
- Anything else that strikes my fancy in relation to my work
As an artist, we’re all unique no matter what the medium we’re working with. So this photoblog is really just a showcase of who I am completely as an artist. I hope that you enjoy what you read, and that maybe, just maybe, it gives you a little bit more inspiration in your life. At the very least, it will assure you that you’re either A) not the only insane person out there or B) you’re sane. C:
